Brexpiprazole falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Psilocybin interacts with.

Theoretically, combining psilocybin with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.
Psilocybin has serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist activity. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with psilocybin might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with Rexulti (brexpiprazole) and psilocybin. Both touch the brain's serotonin system. Psilocybin (really its active form, psilocin) switches on a serotonin receptor called 5-HT2A, while brexpiprazole partly works by adjusting serotonin and dopamine activity. On paper, stacking two serotonin-active substances could add up and, in theory, raise the chance of serotonin-related effects like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness, or confusion.

I want to be honest about how soft this is: it's a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not something actually reported in people. There's also a real chance brexpiprazole could blunt or alter a psilocybin trip. Either way, psilocybin isn't an approved or legal supplement, so please don't combine these on your own. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.

About Brexpiprazole

What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?

Brand name: Rexulti

Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.

Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
