In vitro and animal research shows that rhodiola extract inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and might lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Tarka combines two blood pressure medicines: trandolapril (an ACE inhibitor) and verapamil (a calcium channel blocker). Here's the gist of this one. Lab and animal studies hint that Rhodiola may have a mild ACE-blocking effect of its own, which could nudge your blood pressure a little lower. Since trandolapril already works by blocking ACE, stacking Rhodiola on top might, in theory, add to that effect.
I want to be honest that this evidence is weak, based only on test-tube and animal work, so it's far from proven in people. Still, if you do try Rhodiola, just keep an eye out for signs your pressure dipped too low, like dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint, especially when standing up. P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES

In vitro research shows that rhodiola inhibits P-glycoprotein. Theoretically, using rhodiola with P-glycoprotein substrates might increase drug levels and potentially increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Tarka combines two medicines in one pill: trandolapril (a blood pressure drug) and verapamil (a calcium channel blocker). Verapamil in particular is carried around by a transporter called P-glycoprotein. Lab studies hint that rhodiola may block that transporter, which could let a little more verapamil stay in your body than usual.
If that happened, you might notice more of verapamil's typical effects, like a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, dizziness, tiredness, or constipation. Keep in mind this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, not real-world cases, so it's likely a small risk. Still, since blood pressure and heart rate matter, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding rhodiola.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES

In vitro research shows that rhodiola inhibits CYP1A2. This effect is highly variable and appears to be dependent on the rhodiola product studied. However, a clinical study in healthy young males found that taking rhodiola extract 290 mg daily for 14 days does not inhibit the metabolism of caffeine, a CYP1A2 substrate.

Here's the practical takeaway for your Tarka (that's trandolapril plus verapamil): on paper, rhodiola can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which could let drugs cleared by that enzyme build up a little. But honestly, this connection is pretty weak for your combo. The evidence comes mostly from lab dish studies, and a human study showed rhodiola did not actually slow the breakdown of caffeine, another CYP1A2 drug. Verapamil and trandolapril also aren't mainly handled by CYP1A2 to begin with.
So I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. If levels did rise, you might notice more dizziness, a slower heartbeat, lightheadedness, or constipation. Just run rhodiola past your pharmacist or doctor first, since both medicines affect blood pressure.
