Here's the gist of this one: lansoprazole (Prevacid) lowers the amount of acid in your stomach, and your gut actually needs some acid to absorb thyroid hormone well. So when you take a thyroid extract alongside an acid reducer like this, your body may take up a little less of the thyroid hormone than it otherwise would.

The good news is this is rated a minor interaction. For most folks it just means your thyroid levels could drift slightly, and you might notice symptoms creeping back like fatigue, feeling cold, or sluggishness. A simple fix is spacing them apart and keeping your dose steady. Since over-the-counter thyroid extract isn't standardized, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist so they can check your levels and guide the timing.

About Lansoprazole

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
