Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern runs in one direction: your lemborexant (Dayvigo) can affect how well your body soaks up the thyroid extract, not the other way around. When other oral substances share stomach space with thyroid hormone, they can grab onto it and lower how much actually gets absorbed. This is a well-documented, minor issue and is easy to manage with timing.

A simple fix is spacing them apart. Thyroid products work best on an empty stomach, so taking your thyroid in the morning and saving lemborexant for bedtime usually keeps them out of each other's way. If your thyroid levels feel off (more tired, cold, or sluggish), check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
