ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Enalapril Maleate, Hydrochlorothiazide
Enalapril Maleate, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: tree turmeric (mainly its berberine) may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Your Vaseretic already does that job two ways, with enalapril relaxing blood vessels and hydrochlorothiazide pulling off extra fluid and salt. Stack them together and the effects can add up, so your pressure could dip lower than intended.
If that happens, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, tired, or faint when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this concern comes mostly from animal studies and a small bit of human research with a different blood pressure drug, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Food-level amounts aren't the worry, concentrated berberine supplements are. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your medication on your own.

About Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide
What Is Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?
Brand name: Vaseretic
Enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold under brand names including Vaseretic and Enalapril maleate and hydrochlorothiazide — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). This combination is not meant as the first treatment tried; it's generally used when a single blood pressure medicine hasn't done the job on its own.
Because this is a fixed-dose combination, your doctor will typically adjust each medicine separately first, then switch you to the combination tablet once the right doses are found.
