Why this applies to Celiprolol

Celiprolol falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, turmeric might increase blood levels of OATP4C1 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the turmeric constituent curcumin competitively inhibits OATP4C1 transport. This transporter is expressed in the kidney and facilitates the renal excretion of certain drugs. Theoretically, taking turmeric might decrease renal excretion of OATP substrates.

Here's the gist for celiprolol, which is a beta-blocker used mostly for high blood pressure and chest pain (angina). Your body relies on certain transporters in the kidney to help clear celiprolol out through your urine. Curcumin, the active piece of turmeric, may block one of those transporters (called OATP4C1). In theory, that could let celiprolol build up a bit, which might nudge its effects up, think a slower heart rate, more tiredness, dizziness, or lightheadedness.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from lab (test tube) studies, not from people, so this is mostly theoretical. The turmeric you sprinkle on food is very unlikely to matter. If you're considering a concentrated curcumin supplement, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the deal with taking turmeric alongside celiprolol. Celiprolol is a beta-blocker that your gut moves around with a transporter called P-glycoprotein. In lab and animal studies, the curcumin in turmeric seems to slow that transporter down. The theory is that less of the drug gets pumped back out of your gut, so a little more could be absorbed into your bloodstream.

If that happened, you might notice slightly stronger beta-blocker effects, like a lower heart rate, dizziness, or feeling more tired than usual. But honestly, this is rated as minor and only comes from test-tube and animal work, not real patients. Everyday cooking with turmeric is very unlikely to matter. If you take concentrated curcumin capsules daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
