Nusinersen Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Vinpocetine might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research shows that vinpocetine decreases red blood cell aggregation, as well as plasma and whole blood viscosity. This effect has been seen with intravenous vinpocetine 1 mg/kg and oral vinpocetine 30 mg daily. Vinpocetine also seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Here's something worth knowing if you're considering vinpocetine alongside Spinraza (nusinersen). The interaction in our database is really about vinpocetine's own tendency to thin the blood a little. Studies suggest it can make platelets less sticky and blood flow more easily, which on its own may raise bleeding risk.

Now, Spinraza is a bit different from the blood thinners this warning usually targets. It's given as a spinal injection (a lumbar puncture into the spinal fluid), and that procedure itself carries some bleeding risk. So the real concern is that anything nudging your blood toward easier bleeding could matter around the time of those injections. Please mention any vinpocetine use to the team handling your Spinraza, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Nusinersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Spinraza

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
