Bosentan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Tracleer (bosentan). Your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear this medicine. Lab studies suggest vinpocetine may weakly slow that same enzyme down. In theory, if bosentan clears a little more slowly, levels could creep up, which might mean more of its usual side effects like headache, flushing, swelling in the legs or feet, or changes in your liver blood tests.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only seen in test-tube research, not in real people, so it may not amount to much in practice. Bosentan already needs liver monitoring, so before adding vinpocetine, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
