Why this applies to Abrocitinib

Abrocitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Cibinqo (abrocitinib): your body partly relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break this medicine down. In test-tube studies, vinpocetine appears to weakly block that enzyme. If that slowdown happened in people, abrocitinib could clear a little slower and build up, which in theory could nudge up its side effects like nausea, headache, acne, or a higher chance of infections since it dials down your immune system.

I want to be honest with you though, this is only seen in lab dishes, not in real patients, so it may not amount to much at all. Still, because abrocitinib affects your immune system, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding vinpocetine. Don't change anything on your own.

Abrocitinib also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.

Vinpocetine might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Clinical research shows that vinpocetine decreases red blood cell aggregation, as well as plasma and whole blood viscosity. This effect has been seen with intravenous vinpocetine 1 mg/kg and oral vinpocetine 30 mg daily. Vinpocetine also seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Here's the thing to know about pairing vinpocetine with abrocitinib (Cibinqo). Vinpocetine seems to have mild blood-thinning properties. It can make platelets a little less sticky and may help blood flow more easily. On its own, that's usually minor.

The reason it shows up next to abrocitinib is that JAK inhibitors like this one can lower your platelet count, especially early in treatment. So you may already be at a slightly higher bleeding risk from the medication itself. Adding something that further nudges in that direction could mean more bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. The evidence here is limited, and food-level periwinkle isn't the concern, concentrated supplement doses are. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially since your platelets may already be monitored.

About Abrocitinib

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
