Irbesartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version on combining vinpocetine with irbesartan (Avapro). Your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break irbesartan down. In test-tube studies, vinpocetine appears to slow that same enzyme a little. If that played out in real life, irbesartan could clear a bit more slowly and add up, which in theory might nudge your blood pressure lower than expected. You'd notice that as dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired.

The important part: this is only a weak, lab-dish finding and has never actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both can affect blood pressure, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before adding vinpocetine.

What Is Irbesartan Used For?

Brand names: Avapro, Aprovel

Irbesartan tablets — sold as Avapro and under the generic name Irbesartan — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including stroke and heart attack. The medication can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines.

Irbesartan tablets are also used to treat diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease caused by diabetes) in adults who have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated creatinine levels, and significant protein in the urine. In these patients, it slows the worsening of kidney disease.
