Omeprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Vinpocetine interacts with.

Theoretically, vinpocetine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that vinpocetine weakly inhibits CYP2C9. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for omeprazole and vinpocetine. In lab dishes, vinpocetine appears to weakly block an enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear omeprazole. If that enzyme slows down, omeprazole could in theory hang around a bit longer and have a slightly stronger effect.

Honestly though, this is a very soft, theoretical concern. The blocking was weak and only seen in test tubes, never confirmed in real people. Even if it happened, omeprazole is generally well tolerated, with mild things like headache, nausea, or loose stools being the usual complaints. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's always smart to mention any supplement to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Omeprazole

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Brand names: Prilosec, Zegerid, Losec

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
