What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Beet Root against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This liquid contains one active ingredient: Beet Root Extract. Beet is a food source packed with betalains (the pigments that give it its color) and nitrates, compounds that affect how your body produces energy and manages blood pressure.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The research on beet for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness (soreness that shows up in the days after hard exercise) is possibly effective — meaning some studies suggest it may help, but the evidence isn't conclusive yet. For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For cholesterol levels (dyslipidemia) and thinking and memory (cognitive function), we don't have enough reliable evidence to know either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet as a food is widely eaten and well tolerated by most adults. As a concentrated supplement, though, safety data is sparse, so use caution.
Short-term medicinal use appears well tolerated overall. The most common side effect is harmless red or sometimes black stools — that red color is just beet pigment passing through.
In rare cases, large amounts of beet have been linked to low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) and kidney damage because of compounds in beet called oxaluric acids.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check any medications your liver breaks down using CYP3A4 enzymes (a long list including many heart, blood pressure, and immunosuppressant drugs) — beet may raise their levels. Also double-check blood pressure medications, since beet's nitrates can lower blood pressure.
And check drugs broken down by CYP1A2 enzymes, as beet may decrease their effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Beet Root Extract may help athletic performance and exercise soreness, though the evidence is preliminary. If you take medications that your liver processes — especially blood pressure drugs, heart medications, or immunosuppressants — check your specific prescriptions with the tool below before starting.
Talk to your pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or any CYP3A4 substrate drugs.

Beet Root by Pure Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Beet Root Extract by Pure Herbs can interact with a meaningful number of medications, so it's worth checking before you start.
The most serious concern is with drugs that your liver breaks down using the CYP3A4 pathway (a group of liver enzymes). In vitro research shows that betanin, beet's main pigment, blocks CYP3A4 similarly to a strong inhibitor, which could raise levels of these drugs and their effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beet also interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). The nitrates in beet can relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure, though one study found no significant effect.
The interaction is rated Minor because the real-world impact appears limited — but if you're already on blood pressure meds, this still matters.
Finally, beet theoretically induces CYP1A2 enzymes, meaning it may lower levels of drugs broken down this way, which could weaken their effects. This is rated Minor.
Altogether, these interactions span 850 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page with your exact prescriptions before adding this supplement.

Beet Root Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
