Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Lidtke Chlorella Powder contains one active ingredient: chlorella, a freshwater green algae. That's it — there are no other inactive ingredients listed.

The powder form means you're getting the whole algae with no fillers or binders added.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: nutrient and nutritional support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Fatigue, Hyperlipidemia, Metabolic syndrome, Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Pregnancy-related iron deficiency, immune function — and 2 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Chlorella is rated "Possibly Effective" for Pregnancy-related iron deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Chlorella is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Fatigue, Hyperlipidemia, Metabolic syndrome.

The evidence for chlorella is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency — so it may help, but the data isn't strong.

For brain tumor, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), depression, and fatigue, we don't have enough reliable evidence to know whether it works. If you're considering this for any of those reasons, talk with your doctor first about whether it fits your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorella is generally well tolerated in the short term, but product quality and purity vary widely between manufacturers, so you're taking a bit of a gamble on consistency. The most common side effects are allergic reactions, abdominal cramping, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, nausea, photosensitivity, and stool discoloration — especially during the first two weeks.

Rare serious reactions like anaphylaxis have been reported. Because long-term safety data is limited, the product facts advise against using it unless your doctor approves.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Chlorella.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 337 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this, double-check with your pharmacist if you're on warfarin or any other blood thinner — chlorella can reduce how well they work. Also flag any medication that makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight.

These are the two main medication types documented to interact with chlorella.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Chlorella might help with pregnancy-related iron deficiency, but we don't have solid evidence it works for other uses. If you take warfarin or any photosensitizing medication, you need to check with your pharmacist first.

Expect possible digestive upset in the first two weeks, and know that product quality varies. Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any regular medications.

Formulation

Thank you for choosing Chlorella by Lidtke. We sincerely wish the best of health for you and your family. Lidtke Daesang (Gold Medal) Chlorella is cultivated indoors in a closed, pure environment, yielding consistently higher quality without the high risk of industrial contamination found in outdoor cultivation.

Lidtke indoor cultivation produces a soft, much thinner cell membrane with higher digestibility, better taste, and no need for "broken cell wall" processing used on other chlorella products.

Chlorella Powder by Lidtke: Common Questions

Does Chlorella Powder by Lidtke interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Chlorella Powder has a known interaction with 337 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Chlorella Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while pregnant?
Chlorella is rated possibly safe in pregnancy, so some use may be okay — but safety data is limited. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially since you may be considering it for iron deficiency and they'll want to discuss whether it's the right choice for you and your baby.
What are the most common side effects?
Most people have mild digestive trouble, especially in the first two weeks: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, gas, and stomach cramping. You might also notice your stool changes color, feel more tired, or have an allergic reaction. These usually settle down, but if they don't, stop and talk to your pharmacist.
Is this product pure chlorella with nothing else added?
Yes — this powder contains chlorella and no other inactive ingredients listed. Just keep in mind that product purity and quality can vary between batches, so you're not guaranteed the same level of consistency you'd get from a pharmaceutical drug.
Will this help my fatigue?
We don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether chlorella works for fatigue. The science just isn't there yet. If you're dealing with fatigue, your doctor can help figure out what's actually going on and what might genuinely help.
Can I take this if I'm on blood thinners?
Not without talking to your pharmacist first. Chlorella is high in vitamin K, which can make blood thinners like warfarin less effective. Even other blood thinners may be affected, so check the medication search tool on this page or call your pharmacist with the specific drug you're on.
