HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Tribulus Terrestris by GNC Pro Performance AMP
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: tribulus terrestris extract. Tribulus is a plant traditionally used for sexual function and athletic performance, and the supplement form here is made into capsules with gelatin and cellulose as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence shows tribulus is possibly effective for sexual dysfunction — that's the main claim backed by clinical research. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Short-term, tribulus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but long-term safety data and product quality information are limited. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy because it may affect hormones and safety isn't established.
You should also avoid it while breastfeeding due to lack of reliable safety information. Serious side effects are rare but have been reported, including liver and kidney injury, seizures, and chronic painful erection.
More commonly, some people experience stomach upset — abdominal pain, cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation — though in one study these rates matched placebo. One case of severe toxicity involved drinking 2 liters of tribulus water daily and required hospitalization.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, or lithium — all three carry Moderate interaction risk with tribulus.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Tribulus terrestris may help with sexual dysfunction if that's a concern for you. If you take blood pressure medicine, diabetes medication, or lithium, this product isn't something to add without checking first — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's safe for your situation.
Avoid it entirely if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tribulus Terrestris by GNC Pro Performance AMP Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Tribulus Terrestris by GNC Pro Performance AMP interacts with blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, and lithium — all at Moderate severity.
Through its tribulus terrestris extract, this product can lower blood pressure and blood sugar, which means combining it with drugs that do the same thing could push those levels too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
If you take blood pressure medication (antihypertensives), tribulus may enhance its effect and raise the risk of excessively low blood pressure (hypotension). Similarly, if you're on diabetes medication, tribulus can lower blood glucose, which increases the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Either way, you'd need closer monitoring or a dose adjustment from your doctor.
Tribulus also has diuretic (water-shedding) properties that may slow how your body clears lithium, potentially raising lithium levels and its side effects — another reason your doctor might need to adjust your dose. Altogether, these interactions span 259 individual medications.
Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the checker on this page or talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

Clinical research shows that Tribulus can lower blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes who are taking antidiabetes medications.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking tribulus with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that tribulus can lower blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Tribulus has also demonstrated hypotensive effects in pre-hypertensive adults.
