Combining 5-HTP and carbidopa can increase the risk of serotonergic side effects.
Carbidopa is sometimes used with 5-HTP to minimize peripheral 5-HTP metabolism and boost the amount that reaches the brain. However, this combination might also increase the risk of some side effects including hypomania, restlessness, rapid speech, anxiety, insomnia, and aggressiveness. Combining carbidopa and 5-HTP might also increase the risk of scleroderma-like skin changes due to elevated serotonin levels.

Here's the key thing about Stalevo: it contains carbidopa, which blocks an enzyme that breaks down certain compounds outside the brain. When you add 5-HTP, carbidopa lets more of that 5-HTP slip past and turn into serotonin. So instead of canceling each other out, these two can push serotonin levels up together.

That can mean side effects like restlessness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, fast or pressured speech, irritability, or feeling revved up (hypomania). There are even old reports of skin changes with very high serotonin. To be fair, this is based on anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so it's a real concern but not a guarantee. Please don't combine them on your own. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor first.
