Here's the concern with pairing ashwagandha and pravastatin: both can occasionally stress the liver. Statins like pravastatin already carry a small risk of raising liver enzymes, and ashwagandha has been tied to rare cases of liver injury in people taking it. Putting them together could, in theory, add up to a higher chance of liver trouble.

I want to be honest that this is a theoretical worry based on how each affects the liver, not a proven, common reaction. Still, it's worth watching. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice yellowing of your eyes or skin, dark urine, unusual tiredness, nausea, or pain in the upper right belly. Please don't start or stop either one on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist first.

Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb most often taken to help with stress, anxiety, and sleep, and some small studies suggest it may help, though the evidence is still limited. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but it should be avoided in pregnancy and used cautiously by people with thyroid or liver problems. What Is Pravastatin Used For?

Brand name: Pravachol

Pravastatin Sodium tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to treat high LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), high triglycerides (blood fats), and abnormal cholesterol levels. They are approved for adults and for children ages 8 and older with a hereditary form of high cholesterol called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).

In people without known heart disease, pravastatin helps reduce the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular death. In people who already have coronary heart disease (CHD), it is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, coronary death, stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and procedures to restore blood flow to the heart — and to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries.
