Breadfruit + Progesterone
Progesterone brand name: Milprosa.
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Progesterone. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Progesterone
Progesterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down progesterone. Breadfruit might slow that enzyme down a little. If it does, progesterone could clear out of your body more slowly and build up slightly, which in theory could mean a bit more of its usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, breast tenderness, or bloating.
The good news is this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, and it's rated minor. We don't have human evidence that it actually matters. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to be an issue. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger unknown, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before using those while you're on progesterone.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Progesterone
This page covers Breadfruit only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Progesterone page lists 126 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate), Adrafinil (moderate) and African Wild Potato (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 91 moderate · 33 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Progesterone page
“Many people take progesterone (Milprosa) to support a pregnancy during fertility treatment or as part of hormone therapy, which is exactly when St. John's wort for mood or a morning glass of grapefruit juice can feel harmless.”

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Progesterone
What Is Progesterone Used For?
Brand name: Milprosa
Progesterone is used for different reasons depending on the product. Vaginal products are used in fertility treatment. Oral capsules and injections are used for menstrual and uterine lining problems.
Some topical progesterone creams are sold for skin use. One of them (P25 Progesterone Cream) lists temporary relief of menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. Other creams are labeled for external cosmetic use.
