Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Talwin Compound combines aspirin with pentazocine, an opioid pain reliever. Pentazocine already works on your brain to ease pain, and it can make you feel drowsy, lightheaded, or a bit foggy on its own. Dream herb (Calea zacatechichi) may also have a mild calming, sedating effect, so the concern here is simply that the two together could leave you sleepier than expected.

To be honest, this is a theoretical caution drawn from how each one behaves, not from solid studies in people, and it's rated minor. Still, if you're using both, watch for extra drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed thinking, and don't drive until you know how you feel. It's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Pentazocine page

“Talwin Compound pairs pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, with aspirin, and I read its supplement list with more concern than most. The great majority of entries do one of two things: raise the bleeding risk that aspirin already carries, or deepen the sedation pentazocine causes.”
