Here's the simple version: Primidone (Mysoline) already calms down electrical activity in the brain, and it has a real reputation for making people feel drowsy, dizzy, or a little unsteady, especially when you first start it. Calea zacatechichi, the so-called 'dream herb,' may have its own mild calming effect on the brain. Put the two together and the worry is that those sleepy effects could stack up, leaving you more groggy or off-balance than usual.

I'll be honest with you, this is a theoretical concern based on how things work plus some animal data, not strong human studies, and it's rated minor. Still, if you take Primidone for seizures, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this herb.

What Is Primidone Used For?

Brand name: Mysoline

Primidone — available as Mysoline and as generic primidone tablets — is used to control several types of epileptic seizures, including grand mal (major convulsive), psychomotor, and focal (partial) seizures. It can be used alone or alongside other seizure medicines.

Both Mysoline and primidone tablets may be particularly helpful for grand mal seizures that haven't responded to other anticonvulsant treatments.
