Alitretinoin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the thing to know about pairing chlorophyllin with alitretinoin (Panretin). Alitretinoin is a topical retinoid gel you rub on Kaposi's sarcoma skin lesions, and it can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorophyllin, taken by mouth, has been linked in some reports to making skin react more to light too. So the worry is that the two together could add up and leave you more prone to sunburn, redness, or irritation on the treated areas.

To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical concern, and chlorophyllin's effect here isn't strongly proven. Still, it's an easy one to manage. Wear sunscreen, cover up, and limit strong sun exposure. If you'd like to use chlorophyllin, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your skin.

What Is Alitretinoin Used For?

Brand name: Panretin

Panretin Gel is approved to treat cutaneous lesions — visible skin sores — in adults who have AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), a cancer that causes abnormal tissue to grow in the skin.

Panretin Gel is applied directly to the affected skin spots. It is not for use when the disease has spread widely enough to need systemic (whole-body) treatment — for example, when there are more than 10 new lesions in a month, or when the lungs, lymph nodes, or internal organs are involved.
