Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for anyone on Votrient (pazopanib). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down and clear it out. Corydalis yanhusuo (and the berberine it contains) may slow that same enzyme. If pazopanib is cleared more slowly, levels in your blood can creep up, which could mean stronger side effects like high blood pressure, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, or changes in liver lab values.

To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on lab data, not proven in people taking these two together. But because pazopanib is a serious cancer drug, I wouldn't add corydalis on your own. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Here's the thing to know about pairing Corydalis yanhusuo with pazopanib (Votrient). The concern on file is about bleeding. Corydalis contains compounds (like berberine) that, in lab and animal studies, may make platelets a bit less sticky, meaning your blood could clot a little less easily.

Pazopanib itself can already raise bleeding risk in some people. So in theory, stacking the two could add up to more bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slower to stop. I want to be honest though: this is based on test-tube and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Since pazopanib is a serious cancer medicine, please don't add corydalis without first running it by your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Pazopanib Used For?

Brand name: Votrient

Pazopanib tablets — sold as the brand Votrient and as generic pazopanib — are used to treat two types of advanced cancer in adults: advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form of kidney cancer, and advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have already received prior chemotherapy.

Important limitation: Pazopanib has not been shown to work in adipocytic soft tissue sarcoma (a subtype involving fat cells) or in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), so it is not used for those cancers.
