Progestin, Oral Contraceptive falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Your drospirenone pill (Slynd) gets cleared from your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Corydalis contains compounds, including berberine, that may gently slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a little more progestin linger in your bloodstream than usual. With drospirenone specifically, higher levels might mean a bit more spotting, breast tenderness, headache, or nausea. One thing worth knowing is that drospirenone can also nudge potassium levels up, so this is a combo to mention to your doctor.

I want to be honest here: this is a theoretical concern based on lab work, not real patient reports, so the actual risk looks small. Still, before you add Corydalis, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

  • Progestin-only (drospirenone) oral contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy. Progestin is a female hormone. It works by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation) and changing the cervical mucus and the lining of the uterus. Progestin-only oral contraceptives are a very effective method of birth control, but they do not prevent the spread of of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [AIDS]) and other sexually transmitted diseases.
