Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Animal research suggests that berberine can have hypotensive effects. Also, a clinical study suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with amlodipine alone. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also reduce blood pressure.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Adempas (riociguat): it works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, which naturally lowers blood pressure. Corydalis yanhusuo contains compounds (like berberine) that may also have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect. So the worry here is simply additive, two things nudging your blood pressure down at the same time.

If your pressure drops too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. I'll be honest with you though, this concern is theoretical, based on how these things work rather than strong human studies on this exact pairing. Riociguat already has strict blood pressure precautions, so before adding corydalis, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear riociguat (Adempas). Corydalis contains berberine, which may gently slow that enzyme down. If it does, riociguat could linger longer and build up a bit more than usual.

With riociguat, the main worry from higher levels is its blood-pressure-lowering effect getting stronger. That can mean dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, a faster heartbeat, or feeling faint, especially when standing up. Keep in mind this concern is mostly theoretical, based on lab clues rather than solid human studies, so it may never cause a real problem. Still, because riociguat is a tightly dosed medication, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.

About Riociguat

What Is Riociguat Used For?

Brand name: Adempas

Riociguat tablets — sold as Adempas and under the generic name Riociguat — are used to treat adults with two types of pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs).

The first is chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a condition caused by blood clots in the lung arteries, either after surgery or when surgery is not an option. The second is pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), where the arteries carrying blood to the lungs are narrowed or blocked. In both conditions, riociguat helps improve exercise ability and functional status, and in PAH it also helps slow the disease from getting worse.
