Here's the gist for Koselugo (selumetinib). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down and clear it. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest can mildly slow that same enzyme. If it does, selumetinib could clear more slowly and build up in the blood, which may mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like diarrhea, nausea, mouth sores, skin rash, fatigue, or (less commonly) heart and eye changes.

Keep in mind this is theoretical, based mostly on how the herb behaves in the lab rather than proven cases. Still, because selumetinib treats serious tumors and is dosed carefully, I'd loop in your child's oncology team or pharmacist before adding Corydalis.

Here's the honest picture for combining Corydalis with selumetinib (Koselugo). The interaction we have on file is about bleeding risk. Corydalis contains compounds (like berberine) that may slow down platelets, the cells that help your blood clot. Selumetinib itself isn't a blood thinner, but it can sometimes cause its own bleeding-related issues, like nosebleeds or easy bruising, so stacking something that also nudges platelets in that direction is the concern.

I want to be straight with you: this is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal research, not from real human studies. So it's a caution, not a red alarm. Still, since Koselugo is given to children with NF1, please loop in your child's oncology team or pharmacist before adding Corydalis rather than starting it on your own.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
