ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Linagliptin, Metformin Hydrochloride
Linagliptin, Metformin Hydrochloride falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Damiana interacts with.
Animal research shows that taking damiana lowers blood glucose level.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your Jentadueto XR combo (linagliptin plus metformin) already works to bring your blood sugar down. Damiana, at least in animal studies, seems to nudge blood sugar a little lower on its own. Put the two together and there's a theoretical chance your sugar could dip too far, which we call hypoglycemia.
If that happened, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, irritable, or suddenly very hungry. I want to be honest, though: this is based on animal research and pharmacology reasoning, not solid human studies, so the real-world risk is likely small. The tiny amount in an occasional cup of tea is unlikely to cause trouble, but concentrated supplement doses are less predictable. Before adding damiana, please check with your pharmacist or doctor, and keep an eye on your blood sugar readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Linagliptin, Metformin Hydrochloride page
“Someone taking Jentadueto XR (linagliptin and metformin) for type 2 diabetes is often the same person eyeing fenugreek, bitter melon, or gymnema, and that overlap is why this page deserves real caution. Of its 285 ingredients, 239 can lower blood sugar on their own, so stacking them on a drug already doing that job risks pushing glucos…”

- Digestive upset
- Headache and general tonic
Damiana is a traditional herb most famous as an aphrodisiac and mild mood-lifter, but solid human evidence for any of its uses is very limited.
