Sildenafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Evening Primrose interacts with.

Theoretically, evening primrose may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that linoleic acid, a constituent of evening primrose oil, inhibits CYP2C9.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help break down sildenafil. There's lab research suggesting a fatty acid in evening primrose oil might slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, if the enzyme works slower, a little more sildenafil could hang around in your system, which might mean slightly stronger effects or side effects like headache, flushing, a stuffy nose, dizziness, or upset stomach.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube data, not on real people, and it's rated as minor. For most folks it's unlikely to cause a noticeable problem. Still, if you take sildenafil for blood pressure in your lungs (Revatio) or get lightheaded easily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding evening primrose.

Evening primrose oil is a seed oil rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid, that is popularly used for skin conditions, PMS, and breast pain. The evidence behind most of these uses is mixed or weak, and it is not proven to be a reliable treatment for any condition. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially if you are pregnant or have a bleeding disorder.

What Is Sildenafil Used For?

Brand name: Revatio

Sildenafil tablets, oral suspension, and injection are used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs — in adults to improve exercise ability and slow disease progression. Revatio (tablets, oral suspension, and injection) and sildenafil oral suspension are also approved for PAH in children aged 1 to 17 years.

Viagra (tablet) and Vybrique (dissolving oral film) are specifically indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Not every formulation of sildenafil is approved for both conditions — your prescriber will choose the right product for your situation.
