Midostaurin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear midostaurin (Rydapt) out of your system. In laboratory studies, evodia appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, midostaurin could build up to higher levels than expected, which may mean stronger effects and more side effects, things like nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, low blood counts, swelling, or a higher chance of infection.

I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test tube research, not from real patients, so we don't actually know if it matters in everyday life. Since midostaurin is a serious cancer medicine, please don't add evodia on your own. Run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Midostaurin Used For?

Brand name: Rydapt

  • Midostaurin is used with other chemotherapy drugs to treat certain types of acute myeloid leukemia (AML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells). Midostaurin is also used to certain types of mastocytosis (a blood disorder in which there are too many mast cells [a certain kind of white blood cell]). Midostaurin is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop the spread of mast and cancer cells.
