Here's something worth clearing up. The interaction on file pairs fermented wheat germ extract with immunosuppressants, the kind of drugs that calm down an overactive immune system. The concern is that this supplement might gently rev the immune system back up, which could work against those medications. That logic is purely theoretical, drawn from animal studies, so it's a low-strength signal to begin with.

The bigger point: Flupenthixol (Fluanxol) isn't an immunosuppressant at all. It's an antipsychotic used for things like schizophrenia and depression, and it doesn't act on the immune system. So this particular interaction really doesn't apply to it. I have no good reason to expect fermented wheat germ extract to change how Flupenthixol works. Still, since this supplement is often used during cancer care, please run it past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

SEROTONERGIC DRUGS

2 of 2

Flupenthixol also falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS.

Theoretically, concomitant use of fermented wheat germ extract with serotonergic medications may increase the risk of serotonergic adverse effects.
Animal research shows that fermented wheat germ can increase levels of serotonin in the brain.

Here's the situation with Flupenthixol (Fluanxol) and fermented wheat germ extract. Flupenthixol is an antipsychotic that also has some mood-lifting properties, and it can nudge serotonin activity in the brain. The concern on file is that fermented wheat germ extract might raise brain serotonin levels too. Stack those together and, in theory, you could get more serotonin-related effects.

I want to be straight with you, though: this caution comes only from animal and lab research, not from studies in people, so it's very much a theoretical worry. If you ever noticed things like agitation, shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, or confusion, that's worth checking out. Don't change anything on your own. Just run this combination past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Fermented Wheat Germ Extract

What is Fermented Wheat Germ Extract?

  • Cancer supportive care (as a complementary product)
  • Immune support
  • General wellness during cancer treatment
  • Antioxidant support
  • Fatigue during illness

Fermented wheat germ extract is a supplement made by fermenting wheat germ with yeast, and it is most often marketed for people going through cancer treatment. While some early research and a few small studies are interesting, the overall evidence is limited and far from conclusive, so it should never replace standard medical care. Talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before using it, since it is a supplement and not an approved treatment.
