Here's the gist with desipramine (Norpramin): it's a tricyclic antidepressant that nudges serotonin and norepinephrine levels up in your brain. Fermented wheat germ extract, at least in animal studies, also seems to raise brain serotonin. Stack those two together and the worry is too much serotonin, which can show up as jitteriness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, tremor, confusion, or restlessness.

I want to be straight with you, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not from people. It's a theoretical caution, not something proven in patients. So I wouldn't panic, but I'd absolutely loop in your oncologist, pharmacist, or prescriber before combining them, especially since this extract is usually used during cancer care. Don't change your desipramine on your own.

Desipramine hydrochloride tablets — sold under the brand names Norpramin, Desipramine HCL, and Desipramine Hydrochloride — are FDA-approved for the treatment of depression in adults. Norpramin tablets and the generic formulations share this same approved indication.

Desipramine tablets are not approved for use in children. Adolescents and elderly patients may be prescribed it in certain circumstances, but at lower doses and under close supervision.
