Here's the gist for ondansetron (Zofran). This medicine eases nausea by blocking certain serotonin signals, while fermented wheat germ extract has, in animal studies only, nudged brain serotonin levels upward. The theory is that combining the two could add a little more serotonin activity in your system. Ondansetron isn't a prodrug, so nothing here changes how well it works for nausea.

Honestly, the evidence is thin and comes from lab and animal research, not people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's worth knowing the rare signs of too much serotonin: restlessness, fast heartbeat, sweating, shivering, or muscle twitching. If those show up, call your doctor. Since you're likely using both during cancer care, just loop in your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Ondansetron

What Is Ondansetron Used For?

Brand name: Zofran

Ondansetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting in several situations. Oral forms (tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and oral solution) are approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from highly or moderately emetogenic (nausea-causing) cancer chemotherapy, from radiation therapy to the abdomen or whole body, and from surgery.

Ondansetron injection (given intravenously or intramuscularly in a clinical setting) is approved to prevent nausea and vomiting from emetogenic cancer chemotherapy — including high-dose cisplatin — in adults and children as young as 6 months old, as well as to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting.
