Here is the basic idea with rasagiline (Azilect). It is an MAO-B inhibitor, which means it slows down the breakdown of certain brain chemicals, and it can nudge serotonin activity upward. Fermented wheat germ extract has been shown, mostly in animal studies, to raise brain serotonin levels too. So in theory, stacking the two could add up and slightly raise the chance of too much serotonin.

What would that look like? Things like restlessness, sweating, fast heartbeat, shakiness, or confusion. I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical and based on lab and animal data, not strong human evidence, so it is not a reason to panic. Still, since rasagiline already affects serotonin, please run this combination by your oncologist, neurologist, or pharmacist before starting the supplement.

Brand name: Azilect

Rasagiline tablets — sold as Azilect, Rasagiline, and Rasagiline mesylate — are approved to treat Parkinson's disease. They can be used on their own (monotherapy) or alongside other Parkinson's medications, including levodopa.

When used with levodopa, rasagiline helps smooth out the motor fluctuations that can occur as Parkinson's disease progresses. Your prescriber will determine whether it's right for you as a standalone treatment or as an add-on.
