SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Tramadol, Acetaminophen
Tramadol, Acetaminophen falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Fermented Wheat Germ Extract interacts with.
Animal research shows that fermented wheat germ can increase levels of serotonin in the brain.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Tramacet pairs tramadol with acetaminophen, and the tramadol part is the piece that matters here. Tramadol already nudges serotonin levels up in your brain, which is part of how it eases pain. Fermented wheat germ extract may also raise serotonin, at least based on early animal research. Stacking two things that both push serotonin in the same direction could, in theory, lead to too much serotonin activity.
What might that look like? Things like jitteriness, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, agitation, or feeling unusually restless. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern from lab and animal studies, not proven in people. Still, since tramadol carries its own serotonin risk, it is worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or oncologist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tramadol, Acetaminophen page
“The combinations I worry about most with tramadol and acetaminophen (Tramacet) involve anything that deepens drowsiness or strains the liver. Tramadol is an opioid, so sedating supplements like kava, along with alcohol in any form, can slow breathing on top of adding sleepiness, which is why this list deserves genuine care rather than…”

About Fermented Wheat Germ Extract
What is Fermented Wheat Germ Extract?
- Cancer supportive care (as a complementary product)
- Immune support
- General wellness during cancer treatment
- Antioxidant support
- Fatigue during illness
Fermented wheat germ extract is a supplement made by fermenting wheat germ with yeast, and it is most often marketed for people going through cancer treatment. While some early research and a few small studies are interesting, the overall evidence is limited and far from conclusive, so it should never replace standard medical care. Talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before using it, since it is a supplement and not an approved treatment.
