Goji + Brexpiprazole
Brexpiprazole brand name: Rexulti.
Brexpiprazole falls into 2 drug categories that Goji can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2D6 and reduce metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Goji interacts with whole categories of medication. Brexpiprazole falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Goji in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Brexpiprazole
Brexpiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Rexulti (brexpiprazole). Your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear this medication. Lab tests suggest goji berry juice may slow that enzyme down a bit. If it did, brexpiprazole could build up slightly higher than usual, which might mean more of its typical effects, like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or weight gain.
The important thing to know is that this is theoretical. It has only been seen in test-tube studies, never reported in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Eating goji berries as a food is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you plan to use concentrated goji supplements, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first so they can keep an eye on how you're feeling.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Brexpiprazole also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that goji berry juice inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Rexulti (brexpiprazole): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medication down and clear it. Lab studies suggest goji berry juice may slow that same enzyme. If that happens, brexpiprazole could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might mean stronger effects and more side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness (feeling like you can't sit still), or weight gain.
That said, this is theoretical and comes only from test-tube research, not real people. Eating goji berries as a food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated goji supplements or large amounts of juice are the bigger question mark. Before adding either one, just check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you're feeling.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

- Blood sugar support
Goji berries are a nutritious fruit rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and plant polysaccharides, and they are safe for most people as a food. About Brexpiprazole
What Is Brexpiprazole Used For?
Brand name: Rexulti
Brexpiprazole tablets are approved for two uses in adults: as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment alongside antidepressants for major depressive disorder (MDD), and as a treatment for schizophrenia. These uses apply to both the generic brexpiprazole tablets and Rexulti.
Rexulti has one additional approved use: treating agitation associated with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease in adults. Rexulti is also approved for schizophrenia in adolescents ages 13 and older. Note that Rexulti is not approved for dementia-related psychosis without agitation from Alzheimer's disease, and it is not meant to be used on an as-needed basis for Alzheimer's-related agitation.
