Goji + Glyburide, Metformin
Glyburide, Metformin brand name: Glucovance.
Glyburide, Metformin falls into 2 drug categories that Goji can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2C9 and reduce metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Goji interacts with whole categories of medication. Glyburide, Metformin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Goji in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Glyburide, Metformin
Glyburide, Metformin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.
In vitro research shows that goji berry tincture and juice inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. Additionally, multiple case reports suggest that goji berry concentrated tea and juice inhibit the metabolism of warfarin, a CYP2C9 substrate. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2C9 substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Glucovance is a combo of two diabetes medicines. One of them, glyburide, is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Goji berry may slow that enzyme down, so in theory it could let glyburide build up a bit more than usual. If that happens, glyburide's effect could get stronger, which mainly raises your risk of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion, dizziness). Metformin works differently and is not affected this way.
Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on lab tests plus a few case reports with warfarin, not solid studies with glyburide. A few goji berries as food are unlikely to matter. Concentrated goji juice, tea, or supplements are the bigger question. If you want to use those, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch your blood sugar.

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
2 of 2Glyburide, Metformin also falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS.
Animal and in vitro research show that goji root bark and fruit polysaccharides might have hypoglycemic effects. However, clinical research has only shown that taking goji fruit polysaccharides with or without antidiabetes drugs modestly reduces postprandial glucose when compared with control, with no reports of hypoglycemia.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: goji berries may gently lower blood sugar on their own. Since Glucovance (glyburide plus metformin) is already working to bring your sugar down, pairing the two could add up to a slightly bigger drop. The glyburide part is the piece to watch most, because it's the one that can push blood sugar low enough to cause symptoms like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling hungry or foggy.
That said, this is mostly theoretical. The human studies showed only a modest dip in after-meal sugar, with no actual low-blood-sugar events reported. Eating goji as a food is unlikely to be a problem. If you want to use concentrated goji supplements regularly, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your numbers.

“Glucovance combines glyburide and metformin to lower blood sugar, and its list of 332 interacting supplements deserves real care, starting with the seven rated major. Most entries, 239 of them, lower blood sugar on their own, so stacking one on top of a drug built to do exactly that can drop your glucose into dangerous territory.”
