Green Tea + Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate
Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate brand names: PMB 200, PMB 400.
Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate falls into 3 drug categories that Green Tea can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, estrogens might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Green Tea interacts with whole categories of medication. Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Green Tea in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ESTROGENS
1 of 3Why this applies to Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate
Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate falls under ESTROGENS — the group Green Tea interacts with.
Green tea contains caffeine. Estrogen inhibits caffeine metabolism.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the twist with this combo: it's actually the estrogen part of PMB that does the meddling, not the green tea. Estrogens slow down how your body clears caffeine, and green tea naturally contains caffeine. So when you sip green tea while taking conjugated estrogens, that caffeine can hang around longer and hit a little harder than usual.
In real life, that might mean feeling jittery, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach. The good news is a cup or two of brewed green tea isn't much caffeine, so most folks do fine. Concentrated green tea extract pills are where I'd be more cautious. If you notice you're wired or sleepless, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate also falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research and case reports suggest that green tea inhibits drug efflux by P-gp, potentially increasing serum levels of P-gp substrates. Case reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) adverse drug reaction database describe increased toxicity in patients taking green tea and certain P-gp substrates.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your combo pill, PMB, pairs conjugated estrogens with meprobamate, a calming medicine used for menopausal symptoms with anxiety. Both of these can be moved around the body by a transporter called P-glycoprotein. The thought here is that green tea may slow that transporter down a bit, which could let slightly more of the medicine stay in your system. In theory, that might mean stronger effects, like extra drowsiness or grogginess from the meprobamate piece, or more estrogen-related effects such as breast tenderness, nausea, or bloating.
I want to be honest with you though: this is based on lab work and a few scattered case reports, so it is far from certain. A cup or two of green tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated green tea extract pills are more of a question mark. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding a supplement.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3Conjugated Estrogens, Meprobamate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the good news on combining green tea with PMB (a combo of conjugated estrogens and meprobamate, an older anxiety medicine). The estrogen part is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies show green tea can tug on that enzyme in both directions, slowing it in the gut while speeding it up in the liver. On paper that's a wash.
In real people, green tea hasn't been shown to meaningfully change how this medicine works. This caution comes only from test-tube and animal research, so it's theoretical. Drinking green tea normally shouldn't cause more estrogen side effects (like breast tenderness or nausea) or extra drowsiness from the meprobamate. If you take concentrated green tea extract pills, just mention it to your pharmacist.

About Green Tea
What is Green Tea?
- Antioxidant support
- Weight loss
- Heart health
- Mental alertness
- Cancer risk reduction
Green tea is a popular beverage rich in antioxidants called catechins, and drinking it in normal amounts is considered safe for most people. Concentrated green tea extracts are a different story—they may help modestly with weight or heart health for some, but high doses have been linked to rare liver problems. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking green tea supplements, especially if you have liver concerns or are pregnant.
