Fluorouracil falls under 5-FLUOROURACIL — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of green tea might increase the effects and side effects of 5-fluorouracil.
Animal research shows that taking green tea in amounts equivalent to about 6 cups daily in humans for 4 weeks prior to receiving a single injection of 5-fluorouracil increases the maximum plasma levels of 5-fluorouracil by about 2.5-fold and the area under the curve by 425%.

Here's the gist with green tea and fluorouracil. This is a powerful chemotherapy drug, and the concern is that large amounts of green tea could push more of it into your bloodstream than expected. In an animal study, green tea (roughly equal to 6 cups a day for several weeks) raised fluorouracil blood levels noticeably. If that translated to people, it could mean stronger effects and more side effects, things like mouth sores, diarrhea, low blood counts, nausea, and fatigue.

Keep in mind this is theoretical and comes from lab and animal data, not human studies. An occasional cup of tea is unlikely to be the issue. The bigger question is concentrated green tea extract supplements. Since chemo dosing is so carefully calculated, please check with your oncology team or pharmacist before using any green tea supplement.

Fluorouracil Injection is used to treat four types of adenocarcinoma (a common form of cancer that begins in glandular cells): cancer of the colon and rectum, breast cancer, stomach (gastric) cancer, and pancreatic cancer.

It is nearly always given as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen alongside other cancer medicines, and the specific drugs paired with it depend on which cancer is being treated.
