Liraglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Gymnema interacts with.

Theoretically, taking gymnema with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Gymnema reduces blood glucose levels in some human and animal research. In human studies, it has been shown to enhance the blood glucose lowering effects of hypoglycemic drugs. However, other research in adults with prediabetes or metabolic syndrome suggests that gymnema does not reduce fasting levels of blood glucose. Until more is known, monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Here's the simple version: both Gymnema and your liraglutide (Victoza) work to lower blood sugar. Liraglutide isn't a prodrug, and Gymnema doesn't change how your body processes it. Instead, the concern is that their blood-sugar-lowering effects can stack on top of each other. That could push your numbers lower than expected, which we call hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

With liraglutide on its own, low blood sugar is uncommon unless you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, but adding Gymnema may tip the balance. Watch for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or a racing heart. The evidence here is fairly limited and a bit mixed, so don't panic. Just check your blood sugar more often and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Liraglutide Injection

What Is Liraglutide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Victoza

Saxenda is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management. It is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher if they also have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol or fat levels). It is also approved for adolescents aged 12 and older who weigh more than 60 kg and meet certain BMI thresholds for obesity.

Saxenda should not be used together with other liraglutide-containing products or any other GLP-1 receptor agonist. Its safety and effectiveness in combination with other prescription or over-the-counter weight-loss products have not been established.
