Here's the gist: your body clears dexlansoprazole (Dexilant) partly through a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In a test-tube study, hibiscus extract slowed that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more dexlansoprazole linger in your system, nudging its acid-lowering effect (and any side effects like headache, diarrhea, or stomach upset) slightly higher.

The honest truth is this is purely a lab-based idea. It has never actually been seen in real people, and dexlansoprazole is already a pretty forgiving, well-tolerated medicine. A cup or two of tart hibiscus tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated hibiscus supplements are less studied, so if you use those daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

Here's the gist: your acid-reducer Dexilant is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In a test tube, hibiscus extract slowed that same enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more dexlansoprazole hang around in your body, which might nudge up common, usually mild side effects like headache, diarrhea, gas, or nausea.

The important part is how shaky this evidence is. It's based on lab dish studies only and has never actually been seen in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. A cup or two of tart hibiscus tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're taking concentrated hibiscus capsules, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up so they can keep an eye on things.

Hibiscus sabdariffa is a tart, cranberry-flavored plant most often consumed as a tea, and its best-studied use is for mildly lowering blood pressure. Evidence for other uses is limited, and while hibiscus tea is generally well tolerated in food amounts, concentrated supplements should be used cautiously and avoided in pregnancy. About Dexlansoprazole

What Is Dexlansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Dexilant Solutab

Dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules — sold as Dexilant and available as a generic — are used in patients 12 years of age and older to heal erosive esophagitis (EE), which is damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid. They are also used to keep that damage healed and relieve heartburn over time.

In addition, dexlansoprazole treats heartburn from non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — that is, acid reflux that causes symptoms without visible damage to the esophagus. Both Dexilant and generic dexlansoprazole delayed-release capsules share these same approved uses.
