Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process estrogen. Indole-3-carbinol (the broccoli and cabbage compound) seems to speed up that enzyme, at least in lab and animal studies. If it does the same in people, it could clear estrogen out of your system a bit faster and lower your levels.

For someone taking estrogen, that might mean it works a little less well, with things like the return of hot flashes, night sweats, or breakthrough bleeding. To be clear, this is theoretical and not proven in humans, and the broccoli on your dinner plate isn't the concern here, it's concentrated supplement doses. Don't change anything on your own. Just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist: if you're taking estrogen (whether for menopause symptoms, hormone therapy, or other reasons) and you add an indole-3-carbinol supplement, the I3C may work against your estrogen. It seems to nudge the way your body handles estrogen and can act in an anti-estrogen direction, which could mean your treatment doesn't do its job as well. In real life that might look like hot flashes, night sweats, or other symptoms creeping back.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This concern comes mostly from lab and early studies, not solid human trials, so it's a theoretical worry rather than a proven one. Eating broccoli or cabbage at dinner is very different from taking concentrated I3C pills. Before adding a supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
