Zafirlukast falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Ipriflavone interacts with.

Ipriflavone is thought to competitively inhibit cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9). Theoretically, concurrent use of ipriflavone and drugs metabolized by these enzymes might result in decreased drug elimination, increased serum levels, and potential toxicity. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 include amitriptyline (Elavil), diazepam (Valium), estradiol (Estrace), tacrine (Cognex), verapamil (Calan), warfarin (Coumadin), zileuton (Zyflo), and others.

Here's the gist for your asthma medicine. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear zafirlukast out of your system. Ipriflavone may gently block that same enzyme, so in theory zafirlukast could break down more slowly and build up to higher levels than usual.

If that happened, you might notice more of zafirlukast's typical side effects, like headache, stomach upset, or nausea. I want to be honest though: this concern comes only from lab and animal testing, not real patients, so it's more of a possible caution than a proven problem. Zafirlukast isn't a prodrug, so it stays effective either way. Before combining these, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on you.
