Jackfruit and Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine

Acetaminophen, Aspirin, Caffeine falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist for products like Excedrin Migraine: the aspirin in this combo is already a blood thinner that makes your platelets less sticky. The concern on file is that jackfruit latex (the sticky sap from the bark, not the fruit you eat) contains compounds that may slow clotting too. Stack those together and, in theory, you could bruise more easily or have a harder time stopping bleeding, say from a cut, a nosebleed, or stomach irritation that aspirin can already cause.

The important part: this is based only on lab studies, not real people, so it's a weak, theoretical signal. Eating jackfruit as a food shouldn't be an issue. If you're considering a concentrated jackfruit supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Jackfruit

What is Jackfruit?

Jackfruit
  • General nutrition
  • Blood sugar support
  • Digestive health (fiber)
  • Antioxidant support
  • Wound care (traditional, latex/leaves)

Jackfruit is a large tropical fruit that is nutritious and safe to eat as a food, offering fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. While its leaves, seeds, and other parts are used in traditional medicine for things like blood sugar and digestion, strong human evidence for these supplement uses is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated jackfruit products for a health condition.
