Why this applies to Alteplase, tPA

Alteplase, tPA falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Let me put your mind at ease here. Alteplase (tPA) is a powerful clot-busting medicine given through an IV in a hospital, usually for things like a stroke, heart attack, or a large blood clot in the lungs. It works by breaking down clots, and its main risk is bleeding.

The concern on file is that the latex (sap) from the jackfruit bark contains compounds that, in lab dishes only, slowed clotting and dissolved clots. In theory, stacking that on top of a clot-buster could add to bleeding risk. But this is based on test-tube research, not people, and it involves the bark sap, not the fruit you eat. Eating jackfruit as food has not shown this effect. Since tPA is given by a hospital team who watch you closely, just mention any jackfruit supplements to your doctor or pharmacist.
