Here's the simple version: codeine is an opioid that already slows down your brain and body, causing drowsiness, slowed breathing, and that foggy, sleepy feeling. The concern with jackfruit isn't about how your liver breaks the drug down. Instead, it's about adding sleepiness on top of sleepiness. Some animal studies suggest jackfruit seeds may have a mild calming or sedating effect, so in theory pairing them could leave you more drowsy or sluggish than codeine alone.

I want to be honest about the evidence though, it's weak and based only on animal research, not people. Eating jackfruit as a normal fruit is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated seed supplements are where I'd be more cautious. If you use those, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Codeine Sulfate tablets are used to manage mild to moderate pain in adults when non-opioid pain treatments have not worked or are not tolerated. It is only appropriate when an opioid is truly needed.

Because of the serious risks of addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, codeine is reserved for patients whose pain cannot be managed adequately with other options. It is not a first-choice pain reliever.
