Jackfruit + Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate brand name: Nardil.
Jackfruit has a moderate interaction with Phenelzine Sulfate. Theoretically, jackfruit seeds might cause additive sedation when taken with CNS depressants.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.
Animal research shows that jackfruit seeds can cause sedation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Good news first: eating jackfruit as a regular fruit is fine, and there is no strong human evidence that it clashes with phenelzine (Nardil). The concern here is only theoretical. In animal studies, jackfruit seeds seemed to have a mild sedating effect. So the worry is that concentrated jackfruit seed products, not the fruit you eat at dinner, could add to drowsiness.
Since phenelzine can already make some people feel tired, foggy, or lightheaded, stacking another sedating product on top might deepen that. This isn't a dangerous, well-proven interaction, but if you're thinking about a concentrated jackfruit supplement, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first. Enjoying the fruit itself shouldn't be a problem.

About Jackfruit
What is Jackfruit?
- General nutrition
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive health (fiber)
- Antioxidant support
- Wound care (traditional, latex/leaves)
Jackfruit is a large tropical fruit that is nutritious and safe to eat as a food, offering fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. While its leaves, seeds, and other parts are used in traditional medicine for things like blood sugar and digestion, strong human evidence for these supplement uses is limited. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated jackfruit products for a health condition.
About Phenelzine
What Is Phenelzine Used For?
Brand name: Nardil
Phenelzine treats depression in people described as “atypical,” “nonendogenous,” or “neurotic.” These patients often have a mix of anxiety and depression, along with phobic or hypochondriacal features (intense fears or excessive worry about health).
It is rarely the first antidepressant tried. It is more suitable for people who did not respond to the drugs more commonly used. Evidence is less conclusive for severe depression with endogenous features. These uses apply to Phenelzine Sulfate tablets and Nardil tablets.

Phenelzine Sulfate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenelzine Sulfate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Jackfruit — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
