Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Here's the thing to know about pairing jackfruit with Koselugo (selumetinib). The concern on file is really about the sticky latex sap from the jackfruit tree's bark, not the sweet fruit you'd eat. Lab studies (test tube only) suggest that latex can thin the blood a bit and slow clotting. Selumetinib itself can already lower your platelets and cause bruising or bleeding, so in theory stacking the two might add to that.

I want to keep this in perspective though. This is very weak, theoretical evidence, and enjoying jackfruit as a food has not been shown to cause this. Concentrated latex products are a different story. If your child is on selumetinib, just check with your oncology team or pharmacist before using any jackfruit supplement.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
