Jalap and Pasireotide Diaspartate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pasireotide Diaspartate and Jalap in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Pasireotide Diaspartate

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Pasireotide Diaspartate is filed under a single classification — qt interval-prolonging drugs. Jalap has documented interactions with 5 drug classes — the most serious being stimulant laxatives (major), digoxin (lanoxin) (moderate) and diuretic drugs (moderate) — and none of Pasireotide Diaspartate’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pasireotide Diaspartate page

“All 13 supplements on this page raise the same concern with pasireotide (Signifor), a drug for Cushing's disease that can itself lengthen the QT interval, the electrical reset time between heartbeats. Stack another QT-prolonging ingredient on top and the risk of a dangerous heart rhythm goes up, so treat these combinations with real care.”

About Jalap

What is Jalap?

  • Constipation
  • Strong laxative ('purgative') effect
  • Traditional remedy to 'clear out' the bowels
  • Historical use in folk medicine

Jalap is a powerful traditional laxative made from the root of a Mexican morning-glory plant. It is rarely used today because it can cause violent diarrhea, cramping, and dehydration, and safer laxatives are available. It is not recommended for routine self-treatment, and pregnant or breastfeeding people should avoid it.

Ipomoea purga · Convolvulaceae · Dried tuberous root (and the resin extracted from it) · Dried root powder, resin, tinctures, and historically as a component of laxative preparations

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Jalap is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Jalap record says about it on its own.

Jalap: dosing

There is no established, standardized modern dose for jalap, and it is not recommended for general use. Because the resin is so potent, even small differences in amount can cause harsh effects. If you encounter a product containing jalap, follow the product label exactly and do not exceed it.
