Hydrochlorothiazide, Spironolactone falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Jalap interacts with.

Jalap has diuretic effects. Overuse of jalap might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking jalap along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's something worth knowing about this combo pill. Your medication actually pairs two water pills with opposite effects on potassium: hydrochlorothiazide tends to flush potassium out, while spironolactone holds onto it. The combo is designed to keep your potassium fairly balanced. Jalap is a harsh laxative that, with overuse, can cause heavy fluid loss and dump electrolytes like potassium through repeated diarrhea.

The theoretical worry on file is added potassium loss leading to low potassium (muscle cramps, weakness, an irregular heartbeat). Because your pill already contains a potassium-sparing piece, this concern is somewhat softened, but big fluid losses can still throw your levels off either way. This is based on pharmacology, not strong studies. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using jalap.

Jalap is a powerful traditional laxative made from the root of a Mexican morning-glory plant.
