Chlorthalidone, Clonidine falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Jalap interacts with.

Jalap has diuretic effects. Overuse of jalap might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking jalap along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Your medication pairs chlorthalidone, a water pill, with clonidine, which lowers blood pressure. The part to watch here is the chlorthalidone. Like other thiazide-type diuretics, it makes your body flush out potassium along with fluid. Jalap is a harsh stimulant laxative that can trigger heavy diarrhea, and that fluid loss can pull even more potassium out of you.

Stacking the two could push your potassium too low. Signs of low potassium include muscle cramps, weakness, tiredness, and an irregular heartbeat. Keep in mind this concern is mostly theoretical and based on how these substances behave, not strong studies. Still, jalap is rarely recommended for anyone. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Jalap is a powerful traditional laxative made from the root of a Mexican morning-glory plant.
