Indapamide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Jalap interacts with.

Jalap has diuretic effects. Overuse of jalap might compound diuretic-induced potassium loss. There is some concern that people taking jalap along with potassium depleting diuretics might have an increased risk for hypokalemia.
Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this combo. Indapamide is a thiazide-like water pill, and one of its known effects is lowering your body's potassium levels as you flush out extra salt and fluid. Jalap is a harsh stimulant laxative that can cause violent diarrhea, and heavy diarrhea drains potassium too. Stack those two together and you could push your potassium lower than you'd want.

Low potassium can leave you feeling weak, crampy, tired, or give you an irregular heartbeat, and being dehydrated from both at once makes that worse. To be fair, this concern is theoretical, based on how these work rather than strong studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, jalap isn't a laxative I'd recommend anyway. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What is Jalap?

Jalap is a powerful traditional laxative made from the root of a Mexican morning-glory plant. It is rarely used today because it can cause violent diarrhea, cramping, and dehydration, and safer laxatives are available. It is not recommended for routine self-treatment, and pregnant or breastfeeding people should avoid it.

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
