Alfentanil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Jequirity interacts with.

In vitro research shows that jequirity extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking jequirity may inhibit the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

First things first: I'd steer you away from jequirity entirely. Those red and black seeds contain abrin, a poison in the same family as ricin, and there's no safe or proven reason to take them. So the real concern here isn't the drug interaction, it's the plant itself.

That said, here's the mechanism. Alfentanil is a fast-acting opioid pain reliever given during surgery and procedures, and your body clears it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest jequirity can block that enzyme. In theory, that could slow how fast alfentanil leaves your system, letting it build up and boost effects like deep drowsiness, low blood pressure, and slowed or shallow breathing. But this is only test-tube data, so it's unproven. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

Jequirity (Abrus precatorius) is a tropical plant whose bright red, black-tipped seeds contain abrin, one of the most toxic plant proteins known. Despite a long history in traditional medicine, the seeds are dangerously poisonous and there is no reliable evidence that it is safe or effective. It should not be used as a supplement or medicine.
